How do you install a wireless internet card without a software cd?

Weezil asked:

And what is an ssid? I was trying to set up an Internet connection using the wireless Internet card wizard for my desktop computer. It was asking for ssid Where do I find that? My OS system is XP Home Edition if that helps.
How about without an Internet connection and without an external hard drive?

SSID is going to be the name your router displays as a wireless client. So when you search for a wireless connection you will look for the name you give it. Depending on the card you may want to install drivers from the CD then install the card.
